FY27 Federal Budget: What Technology Companies Need to Know
Harvey Morrison: Co-Founder/CEO, Marion Square
The FY27 Federal budget is beginning to take shape, and for technology companies selling to the U.S. Government, the headline numbers only tell part of the story.
While overall Federal spending priorities are shifting and many civilian agencies are facing significant budget and workforce reductions the Government continues to invest heavily in technology, cybersecurity, AI, automation, modernization and mission-critical capabilities.
But understanding how much the Government is spending isn’t enough.
The more important questions for companies building their FY27 Government go-to-market are:
Where is the money actually going? Which agencies and programs have funded requirements for your technology? And what is the path to contract?
In our recent Marion Square FY27 Federal Budget Overview, I along with Caitlyn Lewis from Carahsoft walked through the emerging FY27 funding environment and what technology companies should be considering as they build their Government sales strategies.
We discussed:
The current status of the FY27 budget and appropriations process
Where Federal technology spending is increasing despite broader budget pressure
Major Department of War investment priorities
How civilian agencies are using technology and automation to operate with smaller workforces
The impact of multi-year funding, including OBBBA investments
How reconciliation and potential supplemental funding could change the FY27 opportunity landscape
What all of this means for companies deciding where to focus their Government GTM
The central takeaway is simple:
Don’t build your Government GTM around who could use your technology. Build it around where there is a requirement, budget and realistic path to contract.
That discipline can help companies focus limited sales resources on the opportunities that matter, reduce time to contract and improve win percentage.
